about camp.
Sky Ranch is a Christian camp located in Van, Texas. (We also have sites at Cave Springs, Oklahoma and Ute Trail Colorado!) Our facilities run year-round and offer tons of different programs, such as summer camps, family camps, outdoor education, school programs, and retreats.
Sky was founded in 1955 by Mel and Winkie Brewer. For more info on that, click here.
Summer Camp
During the summers of 2008 and 2009, I worked in Van as a counselor for Sky 1 (ages 6-9) and Sky 2 (ages 10-11) girls, respectively. In 2010, I spent another summer in East Texas with Sky 2 as part of the leadership team.
At summer camp, kids get to experience tons of SWEET activities like ziplines, horseback riding, THE BLOB, waterslides and the rockwall. At the same time we get to show them who Jesus is and what it means to have a relationship with Him. Playing with kids and showing them Jesus - basically it's the coolest job in the world.
The Legacy Fellowship
This year I am participating in a year-long program called the Legacy Fellowship. I will be working and living on camp full-time, which will be both exciting and exhausting, no doubt. There are 12 of us in the program, and we will be working alongside each other and the rest of the full-time staff to make camp run this year.
As a Fellow, I will be working with all aspects of camp. During the school year, I will be teaching OE classes for school groups that come in (mostly 4th and 5th graders -- my favorite!), and I will be working with retreat groups on the weekends. I will also be working with the programs department and helping to run activities. And of course, next summer I will be throwing it down with summer camp.
For those of you that like details, here is the actual job description from the website:
Camp has always been a big part of my life, and after two summers away, I am so excited to be going back!
